چکیده
Two antimycobacterial drugs ethambutol (EMB) and isoniazid (INH) were found to result in decreases of biomechanical properties including adhesion force, cell wall spring constant, and Young's modulus in Mycobacterium sp. strain JLS (M. JLS).

AFM resolves effects of ethambutol on nanomechanics and nanostructures of single dividing mycobacteria in real-time.
Dynamic nanomechanics and nanostructures of dividing and anti-mycobacterial drug treated mycobacterium remain to be fully elucidated. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a promising nanotechnology tool for characterization of these dynamic alterations, especially at the single cell level. In this work, single dividing mycobacterium JLS (M.JLS) before and after anti-mycobacterial drug (ethambutol, ...
متن کاملUltra structural characteristics of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus cell wall after affecting with lytic bacteriophages using atomic force microscopy
Objective(s): During the last years with increasing resistant bacteria to the most antibiotics bacteriophages are suggested as appropriate treatment option. To investigate lytic activity of bacteriophages there are indirect microbial procedures and direct methods. The present study to complement microbial procedures and investigate ultra-structural characteristics of infection bacterium-phage u...
متن کاملAntimycobacterial activity of fruit of Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC against Mycobacterium smegmatis
Objective: Fruits of lemon pepper (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC., Rutaceae) have been traditionally used as a spice and in folk medicine for treatment of diarrhea and stomachache. Stomachache could be associated with mycobacterial infection. The present study was designed to investigate the activity of Z. acanthopodium fruits against a non-infectious Mycobacterium smegmatis and to identify the ...
متن کاملEthambutol-induced alterations in Mycobacterium bovis BCG imaged by atomic force microscopy.
Progress in understanding the structure-function relationships of the mycobacterial cell wall has been hampered by its complex architecture as well as by the lack of sensitive, high-resolution probing techniques. For the first time, we used atomic force microscopy (AFM) to image the surface topography of hydrated Mycobacterium bovis bacillus Calmette Guérin cells and to investigate the influenc...
متن کاملTopographic Imaging of Mycobacterium Smegmatis Cells Surface Treated with Ethambutol and Rifampicin
The mycobacterial cells were treated with 0.96 mg/ml of Ethambutol (EMB) and 0.64 mg/ml of Rifampicin (RIF) in Luria Bertani (LB) broth. The native and treated cells were serially diluted (10 to 10), from the 10 dilution native cells and antibiotics treated cells were imaged using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The normal surface roughness (Rrms) of the native cells was 0.353 nm, whereas the su...
